Sotogrande is described as one of the best golf courses in Europe and was founded by José McMicking who chose the Sotogrande area in southern Spain to build this spectacular course.

The Sotogrande area was planned in the 60's and at the same time the golf course was built. Quality was the keyword for this golf course as well as for the Sotogrande area.

This world known golf course was in 1994 by the Spanish king Juan Carlos, given a royal title "El Real Club de Golf Sotogrande" and has been visited by golfers from around the world over the years and many of the best golfers in the world have played here.

Severiano Ballesteros, then world-ranked second and José María Olazabal, are two examples of major world stars in the golf that has played this golf course.

Sotogrande was designed by Trent Jones the most famous designer of golf courses in Europe throughout the ages, and was the first golf course in Spain that had automatic irrigation systems.
